Thunder Bay

Wednesday, August 29, 2007

We have just settled into a campsite outside of Thunder Bay, Ontario- Mirror Lake Campground. We are not sure if it is nice or not because we arrived in the darkness. The camp host is quite a character (we aren’t sure whether his spirit is pure or brought on by other liquid spirits). Needless to say he waited up for us, showed us to our campsite, offered to bring us wood at 10:30pm, and thanked God we made it here alive. The Terry Fox Memorial site is nearby and tomorrow we may go looking for Amethyst in one of the local mines. We left Winnipeg this morning around 11:30 am, after a tour of the MTS Centre ~ a very nice facility. We survived two nights sleeping on the streets of Winnipeg (in our holiday trailer) – although we are sorry (for Jason) and relieved (for ourselves) to report that Jason’s vehicle and not our trailer got broken into last night. Can you imagine the reaction of our kids if someone broke into our little home on wheels??? Not Good!

We plan on slowing down a bit during this Ontario stretch as we do not want to arrive in Metropolis of Toronto during the last long weekend of summer. We are taking time to smell the roses or road side construction…whichever. We am please to report that we have traveled over 3000 km and haven’t had a single fight…ok at least not one in which every member of our little family has been involved in. Jay has been doing all the driving and doing a darn good job…so far! We have been learning a great deal about Canada and are already appreciating the vastness of our country…although Ryley is wishing that it wasn’t quite so big-he had something the size of Italy in mind. We are attaching a picture of the view of the Canadian Shield as seen from the inside of the truck- we saw the same view for hours and hours. It wasn’t what we expected, but quite nice just the same. Also attached is the kids at the two borders crossings of the past two days.

Take Care until next time…The Hohn’s
