This week we welcomed the French family- Bernie, Deanna, Carly, and Curtis.

Sore Feet. Wiser kids. Imagine how many teachable moments there are in Las Vegas. We are currently headed back to Laughlin. The sun is setting beautifully on the desert mountains as we drive. We spent this afternoon at the Hoover Dam learning about channeling the power of the Colorado River. The scenery was excellent and the tour very informative.
The past two days in Las Vegas were terrific and we didn’t lose Curtis, although it was a close call…VERY close! It happened quickly and remember we are “country folk” and there were A LOT of fancy lights to look at! OK-here is the story. We spent yesterday afternoon wandering the far end of the famous Las Vegas strip, then returned to the hotel for some quiet time. You always need quiet time after running around the M & M store (mmmm). After a rest and a quick circus show (after all, we were staying at the Circus Circus) we headed back out onto the Strip to see some of the free attractions at night… (which were all cancelled due to HIGH winds)…anyway, back to almost loosing Curtis. We were about to board the double-decker shuttle when the bus driver would not allow us to board the bus Deanna’s souvenir “drink cup” – we step off the bus…disgruntled-trying to make a new plan to get to where we wanted to go.
SUDDENLY-----CURTIS!
He is not with us. By this time we are about 25 ft from the bus stop. We realize he is on the bus! The bus is still there (thank goodness). We run back to the open bus door- get grieve AGAIN from the bus driver about the cup. We find Curtis standing in the middle of the bus aisle looking bewildered- perhaps wondering where his family is…but not scared. Perhaps, questioning the voices he hears coming from outside the bus screaming his name, but not scared. Throughout all of this the bus driver still has a problem with the cup, but not with a six-year-old riding the bus alone in Las Vegas. Curtis in hand, everyone breathed a sigh of relief and we began our journey by foot. Needless to say we reviewed the rule that there should be an adult at front of the group, an adult at the back of the group and all kids safely in between.
Still holding the kids hands,
